![]() Eleanor Garrard was also awarded a highly prestigious "Governor of South Australia Commendation" award for excellence in the SACE Professor Martin Westwell opened the 2013 Loxton High School staff Training and Development program with a presentation based on "Educating for the 21st Century" providing a science-based approach to teaching and learning. The following, while not an exhaustive list, provides an example of highlights throughout the year: The 2013 school year began by celebrating the achievements of 2012 with five students, Eleanor Garrard, Edward James, Nick Falcinella, Sherrin Koch and Emma Ferguson, visiting Government house to achieve a total of eight merit certificates. Most students are engaged in mainstream educational programs with less than 3% enrolled as Flexible Learning Opportunity (FLO) students Highlights At Loxton High School the achievements in 2013 have been quite numerous and from all interest areas, showing once again the diverse opportunities available to students. With a total enrolment of 607 students, 3% are from Indigenous families and 23% are school card holders. Other students are from families involved in the professional and services sectors. While the majority of students are from families who are involved in either broad acre agriculture or horticulture there are an increasing number of students from other backgrounds. ![]() Context Loxton High School is a country high school, located 260 km from Adelaide. The school is the focal point of a highly supportive community. Loxton High School enjoys excellent facilities set in highly attractive grounds. Our sporting program, recognised as best practice, creates opportunities for personal development as well as imparting the skills of teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship and collegiality. Extra-curricular programs, including concert band, performing arts, debating, public speaking, Pedal Prix, volleyball and numerous academic competitions, are specifically aimed at meeting the needs and interests of all students. The Middle School curriculum provides a broad and challenging range of experiences, including the study of German as a second language. A Vocational Education and Training pathway is also offered. Senior students undertake the South Australian Certificate of Education with 60 per cent of Year 12 students progressing to tertiary study. There is a strong tradition of core values "Respect, Trust, Optimism, Commitment and Support" that underpin all aspects of school life, creating a culture of achievement.
