![]() It exemplifies the Mac's advantages over iOS for tinkerers and advanced users." In a 2013 article for Macworld, veteran Mac software developer and commentator John Gruber concluded his reflection on "the unlikely persistence of AppleScript" by noting: "In theory, AppleScript could be much better in practice, though, it's the best thing we have that works. In a 2006 article, Macworld included AppleScript among its rankings of Apple's 30 most significant products to date, placing it at #17. : 863 AppleScript Studio, released with Mac OS X 10.2 as part of Xcode, and later AppleScriptObjC framework, released in Mac OS X 10.6, allowed users to build Cocoa applications using AppleScript. At the same time, the shift to the Unix underpinnings and AppleScript's ability to run Unix commands directly, with the do shell script command, allowed AppleScripts much greater control over the operating system itself. Cocoa applications allow application developers to implement basic scriptability for their apps with minimal effort, broadening the number of applications that are directly scriptable. This was a key factor in retaining the Macintosh's dominant position in publishing and prepress, even after QuarkXpress and other publishing applications were ported to Microsoft Windows.Īfter some uncertainty about the future of AppleScript on Apple's next generation OS, the move to Mac OS X (around 2002) and its Cocoa frameworks greatly increased the usefulness and flexibility of AppleScript. ![]() This in turn led to AppleScript being widely adopted within the publishing and prepress world, often tying together complex workflows. 3.2) was one of the first major software applications that supported AppleScript. ĪppleScript was released in October 1993 as part of System 7.1.1 (System 7 Pro, the first major upgrade to System 7). Apple engineers recognized that a similar, but more object-oriented scripting language could be designed to be used with any application, and the AppleScript project was born as a spin-off of a research effort to modernize the Macintosh as a whole and finally became part of System 7. HyperTalk could be used by novices to program a HyperCard stack. In the late 1980s Apple considered using HyperCard's HyperTalk scripting language as the standard language for end-user development across the company and within its classic Mac OS operating system, and for interprocess communication between Apple and non-Apple products. Essential to its functionality is the fact that Macintosh applications publish "dictionaries" of addressable objects and operations.ĪppleScript has some elements of procedural programming, object-oriented programming (particularly in the construction of script objects), and natural language programming tendencies in its syntax, but does not strictly conform to any of these programming paradigms. As a structured command language, AppleScript can be compared to Unix shells, the Microsoft Windows Script Host, or IBM REXX but it is distinct from all three. Mainly, however, AppleScript relies on the functionality of applications and processes to handle complex tasks. AppleScript can do basic calculations and text processing, and is extensible, allowing the use of scripting additions that add new functions to the language. Apple events are designed to exchange data between and control other applications in order to automate repetitive tasks.ĪppleScript has some processing abilities of its own, in addition to sending and receiving Apple events to applications. AppleScript is related to, but different from, Apple events. Overview ĪppleScript is primarily a scripting language developed by Apple to do inter-application communication (IAC) using Apple events. The term "AppleScript" may refer to the language itself, to an individual script written in the language, or, informally, to the macOS Open Scripting Architecture that underlies the language. First introduced in System 7, it is currently included in all versions of macOS as part of a package of system automation tools. that facilitates automated control over scriptable Mac applications. com /library /archive /documentation /AppleScript /Conceptual /AppleScriptLangGuideĪppleScript is a scripting language created by Apple Inc.

MERMAIDS OF TIBURON (1962) - In her most well-known film, Diane stars as the Mermaid Queen. I assume this is in Meyer’s archives, and hope to heaven it will be released someday. Sex to her was very ethereal, in the head, very spiritual.” Sullivan notes that, “Today, Diane lives quietly in a California nudist community, declining all offers to cash in on her legend.” She looked upon this whole thing as being ridiculous. In Steve Sullivan’s book, “Va Va Voom,” Russ Meyer talks about working with her: “She did it for the money. Her interest in this unique art seems to have lead to a couple roles-she plays a belly dancing coven member in THE WITCHMAKER, and in THE TRIAL OF BILLY JACK she actually plays the part of a belly dancing instructor. In the 60s, she took up belly dancing and went on to teach classes for many years in the San Fernando Valley. ![]() Around this time, she met college senior and budding film technician Joe Webber the two married and soon became active nudists, and Diane became a leading spokesperson for the health and spiritual virtues of the naturalist lifestyle. Her popularity was such that she was one of the few models to grace Playboy’s centerfold twice, in 1955 and again in 1956, both under the name Marguerite Empey, with her second appearance photographed by Russ Meyer. By 1955, she was the nation’s number one figure model. For extra cash, she followed the suggestion of a fellow dancer and began nude modeling on the side. Diane grew up near Hollywood, took ballet lessons in her early teens, and at 18, discouraged that her ballet aspirations would never amount to anything, took a job as a chorus girl in a San Francisco nightclub. De Mille silent, and in 1932, in Los Angeles, the couple gave birth to a daughter, Diane Marguerite Empey. His future wife, as a result of winning a beauty contest, was given a small part in a Cecil B. He also wrote and acted in several other films in the 20s. Her father, Guy Empey, wrote a bestselling book, “Over the Top" (1917), about his frontline experiences in World War I, and acted in the book’s film version the following year. Diane’s parents were no strangers to show business. Webber has, well, escalated, to say the least. Last month I finally picked up a copy and delved into it, and my interest in Ms. She also graced the cover of Nelson Riddle’s easy listening LP, “Sea of Dreams.” Though I’ve been a fan of hers for many years, I had never read the book “Thy Neighbor’s Wife" (1975), in which author Gay Talese uses Diane as the iconic heartbeat of his bestselling study of sex in America. If you are passionate about Fantastic movies, you are interested in the right movie.Diane Webber appeared in eight cult films, various TV series episodes (Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Peter Gunn), and at least two nudie-cutie loops. Ongoing maintenance of the plant’s prairie and grasslands habitats helped support the paintbrush’s return to its native range in Oregon. It’s a good day for the paintbrush, but more needs to be done to save Puget and Willamette prairies and the many endangered species that depend on them.”īy the late 1990s the paintbrush had been eliminated from the Willamette Valley due to habitat loss caused by fire suppression, invasive species, development and recreational picking. “But without the Endangered Species Act, this fragile flower would have been pushed into extinction years ago by unchecked agricultural and residential development. “The upland prairies and grasslands of the Pacific Northwest support many species that, like the golden paintbrush, are uniquely beautiful,” said Quinn Read, Oregon policy director at the Center for Biological Diversity. And in British Columbia, there are three known sites, each located on a separate island. In Oregon the paintbrush has returned to 26 sites within the Willamette Valley. In Washington it lives at 19 sites: five in the South Puget Sound prairie landscape six in the San Juan Islands seven on Whidbey Island, and one near Dungeness Bay in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Now, thanks in part to replanting efforts, at least 48 sites of golden paintbrush have been documented - more than 560,000 plants. The plant, which can grow up to a foot high, was listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act in 1997, with only 10 known populations in Washington and British Columbia. Historically found from southwestern British Columbia to the Willamette Valley in Oregon, the golden paintbrush is a short-lived perennial herb with bright yellow flowers and covered in soft, sticky hairs. Fish and Wildlife Service proposed today to remove a flowering plant called the golden paintbrush, in the Pacific Northwest, from the endangered species list due to its recovery. ![]() Collaborative Business Innovatorīrowser-based role for centralized team collaboration offering secure online data storage and sharing, tailored dashboards, social communities and more. Instead, you're strengthening the invisible bond between the two of you. That way, you're not bribing him into following you. Our dog treat pouches are perfect to hold treats (as well as keys, your phone, poop bags etc) on your training walks. If your dog is food motivated, you can also use food rewards to let him know you're pleased with his behavior. If you have to change direction 50 times in order to convey that, do it! It's totally fine if you don't get very far on your first few practice walks! Really focus on getting your dog to pay attention to you and to look at you. If you have a long hallway, you can practice there as well! If you don't have one, find an area that's not overly busy so your dog has an easier time concentrating on you. ![]() For starters, you could practice in your yard. Repeat frequently while you're working on your pup's polite leash walking skills. He can't do that when he's pulling ahead of you, so he'll soon get the concept of NOT doing that. The neck pressure he'll feel when you start walking in the opposite direction will convey the message that he needs to follow your lead and ultimately check in with you. Then turn around and walk the other way.Get your dog's attention - Cooper, this way!.So when your dog starts to walk ahead to the point where tension will be on the leash, turn around and walk in the opposite direction! Instead, incorporate directional changes on your walks to keep a loose leash and teach your dog to pay attention to you. That's only going to encourage your dog to pull more. Which brings me to the next question: How do you hold the slip lead to stop pulling?įirst things first: Don't keep constant tension on the leash. This will prevent the slip lead from sliding down. Instead, you'll want to walk your dog without tension on the leash. If the slip lead keeps sliding down, it's because you're letting your dog walk too far ahead of you while pulling you. It should be tight but still have enough wiggle room for you to slide a finger or two underneath. To do this, simply slide the stopper where you want the collar loop to sit. Next, secure the position of the slip lead with the stopper. When you keep it around your dog's throat, they're going to choke themselves, so please don't do that! How do you get the slip lead to stay in place? That's where you're going to have the most control over your dog's entire body, so this position is crucial for your successful slip leash dog training. Ideally, right at the top of your dog's neck, behind the ears. Unlike your regular flat collar that sits at the base of the neck, the slip lead loop should sit as high as possible on your dog's neck. If you're walking your dog on the right, hold the slip lead so that it forms an inverted letter P/a 9 when sliding it on. If you're walking your dog on the left, hold the slip lead so that it forms the letter P when sliding it on. We refer to it as our Mighty Paw Slip Rope Leash.
